EXPLORE pallula’s BRAND STORY

From endless curiosity, imagination and a fascination of what can be done with the smallest pieces of material, pallula was born, a design brand, creating unique, eco-friendly, and timeless designs by hand.

I started out by taking part in the King’s Trust Enterprise programme in 2017 and in the process have even won the Young Innovator Award 2018 awarded by Innovate UK and the King’s Trust. Their continuous support has been invaluable! Since completing the programme I worked on setting up my brand, clarifying the details, finding my design style, and experimenting with new products.
I have taken a step back from working on the brand full-time since 2021 to dedicate myself to my master’s degree studies in order to improve my skillset. However, my accessories and cards are still available over on Etsy in the meantime.

A NOTE FROM pallula FOUNDER

Hi, I’m Paula Strahl, the person behind this little brand, and I design and make everything you will find on here.
I graduated from University with a BA (Hons) Fashion Design in 2017, and am currently studying for my master’s degree in Design for the Fashion System in Milan, Italy.
I am fluent in English and German, and halfway coherent in Italian.
I love a good book, music, the beach, and crafting.

DESIGN

pallula’s style is a mix of clean-cut, cool shapes, and quirky and creative design.

For me fashion is not mere embellishment. Fashion is fun; fashion is experimental. Fashion tells a story, it speaks of time and places, and expression of self. I aim to create garments which contribute to this dialogue. The sources of my inspiration are widely spread but always relate back to the ever-evolving wonders of nature. For example, taking photos of my surroundings and its textures and creating prints from them, makes for unique and immersive textiles.
Handcrafted embellishment is where my passion lies though. Embellishments such as beading and embroidery add textures and a sensory touch.
Layering the two techniques creates inimitable textures and a third dimension.
For me the beauty and interest is in the details.

ETHOS

I’m a strong believer in quality over quantity and always look for ways to make my pieces as environmentally friendly as possible. Sustainability is super important to me! So, I try my best to make sure that the products I offer are sustainable and that natural materials and eco-friendly dyes are used. Fair working conditions for anyone involved in the production process is also a big priority for me. As pallula grows, I make it my mission to push for more sustainable fabric options and eco-friendly dyeing methods.

PSbypallula

One very important design aspect to me, is to use up all bits and pieces of leftover fabrics that have accumulated over the years. Most offcuts in the fashion industry end up too small to make another garment with or they’re funny shapes, so they just end up in the waste bin. That’s a hefty amount of waste of precious material!
I aim to elevate these bits of material from an afterthought to unique pieces of art. And thus, PSbypallula was created. Within this collection you can find all the really cool pieces, such as greeting cards and small zip bags, made from truly unique material.
Afterthoughts no more!
Note that none of the pieces will exist again in exactly the same way – as the fabrics change, so will the designs.
